Love Your Library With A Gift
Bangor Public Library
35 North Main St.
Bangor, PA 18013
Dear Resident:
Thank you for your past support of the Bangor Public Library. Each time you visit the Library, borrow materials, contribute a monetary gift, donate books for the used book sales, or volunteer, you help keep alive a shared community resource that has kept the doors of knowledge and lifelong learning open for our community members for ninety-one years.
The importance of the Library to Bangor, East Bangor, Lower Mount Bethel, Portland, Roseto, Upper Mount Bethel, and Washington cannot be overstated. It is critical that free access to collections, technology, and programs remains available to students, job hunters, senior citizens, and all the thousands of patrons who walk through our doors seeking information each year.
This year’s campaign will raise funds to support the mission of preserving the Library and providing enhanced opportunities for patrons by :
· Purchasing new technology, funding building repairs, and continuing to develop a digitized collection of local historical records
· Providing monthly cultural and literary programs for all ages, including summer reading programs for youth
· Purchasing additions to the general collection
The 2012-2013 budget requires expenditures in the amount of $130,000 to qualify for state aid, but only 20% of the expenses are offset by state aid. State aid for the 2012-2013 year was $25,977.18. If we do not meet the budget spending requirement, we face losing additional state aid and many important programs such as:
· ACCESS PA (a program which allows you free use of other public libraries in Pennsylvania)
· POWER Library (a free connection to useful databases)
· Ask Here PA (a program that connects you to a live librarian 24 hours/7 days a week )
· State grants
· Inter-library loan privileges
We hope this letter will encourage your continued support with a tax-deductible donation. As our population grows, so does the number of library patrons. The Bangor Public Library wants to be able to continue to serve all citizens as the need for information grows. Thank you for your assistance in securing the Library’s collections, programs, and services for you and future generations of library users.
Sincerely,
Bangor Public Library Board of Trustees
