Love Your Library With A Gift
Dear Resident:
The Bangor Public Library is a shared community resource that has kept the doors of knowledge and lifelong learning open for our community members for almost ninety years. The importance of the Library to Bangor, East Bangor, Lower Mount Bethel, Portland, Roseto, Upper Mount Bethel, and Washington cannot be overstated. It is absolutely critical that collections, technology, and programs continue to serve students, job hunters, senior citizens, and all the thousands of patrons who walk through our doors seeking information each year.
This year’s campaign will raise funds to support the Library’s commitment to providing enhanced opportunities for all of our library users for:
- New technology, building improvements, cosmetic improvements, upstairs shelving, and the continued development of a digitized collection of local historical records
- Cultural and literary programs for all ages
- Additions to the general collection
The 2010-2011 budget lists expenditures in the amount of $127,775. State funding received for the 2010-2011 year was $25,980, a decrease of $14,000 from 2008-2009. While State funding continues to decline, spending requirements remain the same. If we do not meet this requirement, we will lose additional State aid and many important programs such as:
ACCESS PA (a program which allows you free use of other public libraries in Pennsylvania)
POWER Library (a free connection to useful databases)
Ask Here PA (a program that connects you to a live librarian 24 hours/7 days a week)
State grants
Inter-library loan privileges
We hope this letter will encourage you to help with a tax-deductible donation. As our population grows, so does the number of library patrons. The Bangor Public Library wants to be able to continue to serve you as your need for information grows. We are confident that your generous contribution will secure the Library’s collections, programs, and services for you and future generations of library users.
Sincerely,
Bangor Public Library Board of Trustees
